Airlocks are another one of those necessary pieces of equipment for every wine maker and homebrewer. If you ferment in a carboy or bucket this 3 piece airlock is a must! It’s a popular alternative to the S-type of airlock because it can be taken apart and cleaned, and is easy to fill.
Fill with a sanitizer or Vodka and insert in a drilled stopper or the top of a fermentation lid with grommet to vent gases during fermentation. Includes body, piston, and vented cap. This airlock is easy to disassemble and clean out.
In the cases where you are using a yeast known to produce lots of Krausen; the piston can be removed and the airlock can be fitted with 1/2" ID tubing to create a blow-off for vigorous primary fermentations. Run the silicone tubing into a jar or bucket of water. When fermentation dies back down remove the tubing and replace the piston and cap.
